Day 49 - Second floor

Progress is slow but we hit a milestone! We installed the 1st floor ceiling, meaning second story construction begins!

Well, lets back up a bit.

It was time for another trip to Dollhouse Junction Lynlott Miniatures for more supplies and great advice!! They have been a great source of guidance during this first time build.

Please visit their website or give them a call 412 781 6445

We built and installed the eight 1st floor windows. That meant prepping, sanding, and painting 16 window frames. Each window is made up of two window frames with lexan sandwiched in between. The inside and outside frames had to align perfectly so the scroll work matched.

Next came Gemma's RED door. It took a lot of patience to get the red liquid smooth. I think it came out fantastic. The front door has four pieces of lexan, both sides, over the top of the door, and a oval piece in the door itself.

I often describe this build as a chess match, you have to think five steps ahead, to make sure everything is in place before things are glued together. Once that happens, there is NO going back.

After making sure everything was done and it was OK to proceed, we began to glue the bottom and top of every panel and secured the second story floor in place. Each panel has to fit a specific slot, so you pick a side and work across getting the slots in the floor to accept the tabs from the walls.

I originally planned to wire the entire house, but then decided to go a much easier and user friendly route. Instead of wiring, Gemma picked out ceiling lights that run off watch batteries and are held in place by a magnet.

Gemma loves to show off the progress, she is SO excited to be a part of this family project. She is already arranging furniture in the rooms. We used some heavy items to press and hold until the glue dried.

It is hard to believe a massive pile of unfinished pieces is turning into this.

Day 43 - "Coming in" room

Finished painting and wall detail for the entry room that Gemma has named the "Coming in room".

This really has become a family project. Gemma has transitioned into the interior designer and my wife and I are the contractors.

Gemma picked out ceiling lights for the first floor as well as baseboard and 👑 crown moulding.
